Afghanistan Lead-Zinc Underground Mine

Tunnel mining of lead-zinc ore with a proven, field-maintainable fleet.

Overview

About the project

We mine lead-zinc ore through tunnels driven into the host rock using conventional drill-and-blast methods. The ore body is opened from surface cuts, then developed underground.

Our fleet is chosen for remote conditions: equipment that is robust, widely available in the region and repairable on site. Broken ore is mucked at the face, hauled to the portal and trucked to the stockpile for sorting and bagging.

Equipment fleet

Built for the full underground cycle.

A proven, field-maintainable fleet, from drilling and blasting at the face to haulage and ground support.

  1. Stage 01

    Drilling & blasting

    Breaking ore at the face.

    • Pneumatic rock drills

      YT28 / YT24 handheld jackhammers

Air-powered, low-cost and repairable in the field. The standard underground drill across the region.

    • Screw air compressor

15–20 bar · Atlas Copco or Kaishan

Supplies compressed air to the rock drills at the working face.

    • Explosives & detonators

      ANFO with electric detonators

Controlled face blasting to advance the tunnel and break ore.

  2. Stage 02

    Mucking & loading

Clearing broken rock inside the tunnel.

    • Compact wheel loader

      0.6–1.0 m³ bucket · XCMG LW180 class

Small enough to work in tunnel headings and around the portal.

    • Mucking loader

      ZWY-60 / ZWY-80 (Häggloader type)

Loads blasted rock continuously from the face into mine cars.

    • Mine cars & battery locomotive

      Rail haulage

Moves ore from the face to the portal with no exhaust fumes underground.

  3. Stage 03

    Haulage & support

Moving ore out and keeping the tunnel safe.

    • Dump trucks & tractor trolleys

      10-tonne class

Carry ore from the portal to the stockpile for sorting and bagging.

    • Shotcrete machine

      Sprayed-concrete ground support

Critical in the fractured host rock typical of lead-zinc deposits.

    • Ventilation

      2 × 11 kW fans with ducting

Delivers fresh air to the working face and clears blast fumes.
